USPS Rates Complete USPS Rates Summary

Effective May 14th 2007 the United States Postal Service will be initiating a change in the way First Class Mail is rated.  This new pricing strategy is called Shape Based Pricing and without the proper understanding of this pricing policy you will run the risk of having mail returned for insufficient postage or forwarded with postage due.

The premises behind this new policy is for the USPS to collect postage rates for each piece of mail more in line with the actual costs of handing that specific piece.  Large envelopes that weigh 3 ounces will now cost more than a smaller envelope that also weighs 3 ounces.

The below graphic is a summary of how mail will be rated after May 14th.  Basically ever piece of mail will need to measured for length, height, thickness and weight to determine the proper postage amount.

To aid with Shape Based Pricing, Hasler has developed a unique solution in 4 of our more popular model mail machines that will actually measure the length, height, thickness and weight as the mail pieces are processing through the postage meter and automatically determine the proper postage.

The systems will do this at speeds of up to 120 envelopes per minute (2 per second).  These solutions are known as Weigh-in-Motion systems with Shape Based Pricing complaint software.

For those with low volume applications we have a Shape Based Pricing template available for purchase.  The template is shown below and offers simple to use measuring guides for both letter and flat size mail pieces.  The template is available for $20.00 plus tax and freight.
